Dr. Vasilii Shelkov Leads PVL Seminar on Reservoir Simulation and Industry-Relevant Skills
PetroSkill Virtual Learning hosted Dr. Vasilii Shelkov, Co-Founder and CEO of Rock Flow Dynamics, for a technical seminar exploring the importance of reservoir modelling, simulation skills, and advanced geomechanics in the oil and gas industry.
On 5 February 2026, PetroSkill Virtual Learning (PVL) hosted a technical seminar titled “The Value of Reservoir Modelling & Simulation Skills and the Industry Relevance of RFD’s tNavigator,” featuring Dr. Vasilii Shelkov, PhD, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rock Flow Dynamics (RFD), as the keynote speaker and seminar chair. Dr. Shelkov delivered an insightful technical presentation on fully coupled geomechanics, featuring a live simulation demonstration using the SPE10 model. His presentation highlighted how advanced reservoir simulation integrates fluid flow and geomechanical processes to improve subsurface understanding, forecasting accuracy, and field development decisions. Drawing on over two decades of experience in high-performance reservoir simulation and energy software innovation, Dr. Shelkov shared valuable perspectives on the evolving technical demands of the petroleum industry and the importance of developing practical simulation competencies. The seminar also featured contributions from industry professionals, including Ankit Singh, Reservoir Engineer; Amr Labib, Assistant General Manager of Reservoir Development and Reserves Evaluation at Abu Qir Petroleum, Egypt; Mohamed Taher, who discussed the industry adoption of tNavigator; and Robert Moukhametov, who shared insights on what students should prioritize when learning simulation tools. The event reinforced PVL's commitment to bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice by providing students and early-career professionals with access to industry experts, advanced technologies, and practical learning experiences. Through initiatives such as this, PetroSkill Virtual Learning continues to empower the next generation of energy professionals with relevant technical knowledge and industry-ready skills.
